US ARMY Intelligence Analyst
Intelligence
positions in the United States Army , like the Intelligence
Analyst,
are crucial in providing concise information
related to enemy dispositions. Intelligence Analysts use
aerial photographs, satellite imagery, signal intelligence,
human intelligence, and other intelligence sources and data to
aid in formulating sound assessments and estimations of troop
strength
and other dispositions related to protecting the United States
and for National Security. A Top Secret security clearance is required
in most cases
with a Special Background Investigation (SBI). Some assignments
require higher level clearance or PRP such as overseas embassy duty - defense
attache, humint intelligence, and/or dealing with tactical nuclear weapons.
US Army Website has the Intelligence Analyst duties as follows:
- Preparing all-source intelligence products to support the combat
commander
- Assisting in establishing and maintaining systematic, cross-referenced intelligence
records and files
- Receiving and processing incoming reports and messages
- Assisting in determining the significance and reliability of incoming information
- Assisting in the analysis and evaluation of intelligence holdings to determine
changes in enemy capabilities, vulnerabilities and probable courses of action
- Assembling and proofreading intelligence reports and assisting in consolidating
them into Army intelligence
- Storing and retrieve intelligence data using computers
Depending on the Analyst's performance, duty assignment, and/or unit, some
Analysts may find themselves in some quite challenging yet rewarding positions
in both strategic and/or tactical
assignments overseas. Performaing tasks outside the scope of those
listed above would not be uncommon. Although less frequent, some Analysts
may find themselves at
Top Secret listening posts, collecting intel from informants (HUMINT sources),
or even conducting surveillance. Overall there's a lot of potential for some
very exciting assignments.
