Cannot get the web site shortcut icon to change in Windows Vista...
Question: When using the ‘send to desktop’ to get a shortcut for any web site (google, ebay, etc), my icon is set to the internet explorer icon. When I try to change the icon using properties, I can see the desktop icon ‘twitch’, but it doesn’t reflect the icon change I attempted to apply. The properties – change icon feature works for changing out icons for shortcuts to file directories. I cannot get the web site icon to change. Any ideas? Marilyn
Answer: In this case the user was operating under Windows Vista. The fix was to downsize the icon size to a slightly smaller number.
1. Right + Click your desktop in any open area
2. Select Personalize
3. Then select Window Color and Appearance
4. At the bottom of the windows select the link Open Classic Appearance Properties For More Color Options 5. Inside Open Classic Appearance Properties For More Color Options choose Advanced
6. From the pull-down menu select Type: as Icon and change this to a smaller size like 30 if the default is 32
7. Choose Okay > Apply
Applying these steps allowed changes to shortcut icons so that they would appear correctly.
