Some of the most popular
messenger programs used today are AOL Instant Messenger
(AIM), MSN Messenger and ICQ. All three of these applications are used for chat communication. For the purpose of this
explanation AIM will only be described.
AOL Instant Messenger
(AIM) icons are commonly called Buddy Icons and are used mainly for identity.
They are generally 50 x 50 pixel images and can be in
the following formats: .gif, .jpg or .bmp. They can be
animated or static non-animated images as long as they
do not exceed 7160 bytes in size. For those of you who
have not used AIM here is a screenshot of what the Instant
Message window looks like (example below).
